Quest 2 Headset
Users had spent over $1 billion (approximately Rs. 8,000 crore) on Quest apps, according to Meta, who said that the price increase will allow the company make long-term investments.
In spite of plans to provide a replacement headset later this year, Meta Platforms announced on Tuesday that it would increase the cost of its Meta Quest 2 virtual reality (VR) headset by nearly $100 (about Rs. 8,000) starting in August.Meta has increased its focus on VR and the metaverse since changing its name in November of last year.It recently unveiled updates to Horizon Worlds, its VR platform, and established a real store where customers could test the headsets.
According to Meta, the retail prices for Quest 2’s 128-gigabyte and 256-gigabyte models are set at $399.99 (approximately Rs. 32,000) and $499.99 (about Rs. 40,000) respectively.Additionally, it increased the cost of several accessories and refurbished products.
According to a statement from Meta, consumers have spent over $1 billion (approximately Rs. 8,000 crore) on Meta Quest apps. “We’re making a shift that will allow us continue to invest for the long run and continuing moving the VR industry ahead”.
Without providing a particular release date or hardware details, Meta stated that it will introduce a new high-end VR headset later this year under the codename Project Cambria.
According to rumours, Apple is reportedly developing its own VR gear.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, demonstrated virtual reality (VR) headset prototypes last month to explain how the business is battling rivals in the quest to make immersive experiences more human-like.
By creating new hardware, Meta is attempting to overcome the difficulties still facing the VR industry under the Reality Labs division.The prototypes demonstrate how they function while also showing that a fully functional headgear capable of transporting us to a virtual world that is just as lifelike as its physical counterpart has yet to be created.
The Quest 2 is currently Meta’s most recent commercial VR headset.However, that model is missing the features and improvements that the Menlo Park, California-based startup plans to add to improve its VR products.Therefore, it is expected that the continuous prototyping will contribute to the creation of improved hardware in the near future.
