The Oppo Watch 3 series, the first smartwatches to run on the Snapdragon W5 wearable technology, will be released in August.
On Tuesday, Qualcomm revealed its newest platforms for wearables, the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon W5 Gen 1.The Snapdragon W5+ platform, according to Qualcomm, uses 50% less energy while providing 2X higher performance and richer features in a 30% smaller form factor than the prior iteration.Furthermore, a hybrid architecture is the foundation for the recently released Snapdragon wearable platforms.A 4nm SoC with a 22nm highly integrated always-on co-processor make up each of them.Additionally, the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platforms from Qualcomm support the Bluetooth 5.3 ultra-low-power architecture.
The first firms to launch new smartwatches based on the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platforms are Oppo and Mobivoi.The Oppo Watch 3 series will debut as the first model in August.Later this year, Mobvoi will introduce its flagship TicWatch next-generation smartwatch.Oppo claims that it worked closely with Qualcomm to design the Watch 3 series.Pankaj Kedia, Global Business Head for Smart Wearables at Qualcomm, claims that 25 models spanning several product categories are now in development.
The Qualcomm W5+ Gen 1 and W5 Gen 1 platforms for wearables are marketed as the company’s most significant advancements in the market, meeting the demands of modern consumers.In order to extend battery life, they also enable additional Deep Sleep and Hibernate states as well as low-power “islands” for Wi-Fi, location, and audio subsystems.
Additionally, Qualcomm Technologies unveiled two reference designs from Compal and Pegatron that show off the platform’s potential and the company’s cooperation with ecosystem partners.According to the company, Compal and Pegatron will also aid clients in expediting the development of their goods.
