Apple is adding edit and undo options to iMessages

Must read

Apple is introducing a new feature to its iMessages service that allows users to modify or delete texts they’ve sent.On Monday, Apple CEO Tim Cook and other Apple officials introduced the new feature at the company’s World Wide Developers Conference, where they reveal the latest improvements to its devices.

“Hundreds of millions of people rely on messages every single day”, said Craig Federighi, Apple‘s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, adding that “three highly requested enhancements to messages” will be added.

“First, have you ever sent a message and realised right away that you didn’t convey exactly what you meant?” he said.”No worries, because you can now change the message you just sent.As a result, embarrassing errors are no longer an issue”.

The ability to undo a delivered message is the second new feature, according to him.The third feature is the ability to designate a thread as unread, so that if you read it and decide to return to it later, it will appear as if you had not yet read it.

These are just a few of the new features Apple highlighted at its annual conference. The “largest update ever” to the iPhone’s lock screen, according to Federighi, would allow users to add widgets and alter fonts and colours, just like on the Apple Watch.

“Protecting our consumers’ personal privacy is another very essential area”, Federighi added while proposing new privacy options.”One way we’re doing that is by offering a new option to enable users rapidly turn off others’ access, such as stopping location sharing if they’re fleeing an abusive relationship”, says the company.

Safety Check, a new application developed by Apple in collaboration with domestic abuse charities, allows users to log out or reset their settings if they’ve shared information or passwords with others.Apple has gotten excellent feedback on their approach, according to Katie Skinner, senior manager of user privacy software, notably from the National Center for Victims of Crime.

Changes to the Apple Watch were also unveiled, including a workout app upgrade. The MacBook Air will also be redesigned, and programmes such as the calendar will be updated, according to Apple.
