WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature that allows users to link an email address with their accounts. The new feature is aimed at offering users the flexibility of receiving OTP verification code in case they are unable to receive it via SMS at the moment.
The feature can come in handy at times where the 6-digit code is not getting delivered via SMS or users are facing issues with the WhatsApp login.
The feature is now rolling out to iPhone users and is also available on Android, but in the latest beta version. So, if you are an Android user, you’ll have to enroll into the WhatsApp Beta program via Google Play Store to get the beta version on your device. This can be done via Play Store → Search → WhatsApp. Then open WhatsApp listing and scroll down till you see the option Become a Beta tester. Tap on the Join button.
Here are the steps to enroll an email address with WhatsApp account:
- Open the WhatsApp application on your mobile device.
- Navigate to the settings menu by tapping on the three dots located at the top-right corner of the screen.
- Within the settings, choose the “Accounts” option.
- Under the Accounts menu, select the “Email address” option. This is where you will link your email with your WhatsApp account.
- Input the email address that you wish to link with your WhatsApp account. Make sure it’s a valid and accessible email.
- After entering the email, you’ll receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on the provided email address.
